Neda Alizadeh Kashani

Dr. Neda Alizadeh Kashani is a university professor, researcher, and translator. She currently serves as an adjunct professor at the University of Tehran within the Department of Italian Language and Literature. Previously, she taught in the Department of Translation Studies at Allameh Tabataba’i University. In 2014, she earned her PhD in Modern and Comparative Languages and Literatures from the University of Macerata in Italy. Her doctoral thesis, entitled “Adrienne Rich’s Ghazals and the Persian Poetic Tradition: A Study of Ambiguity and the Quest for a Common Language,” was awarded with the Fath al-lah Mojtaba’i Prize in 2014, Iran. 

She has an estensive experience as a translator, notably translating from Persian into Italian, M. R. Shafi‘i Kadkani’s poetry collection Hezare-ye dovvom-e ahu-ye kuhi (Il secondo millennio della gazzella di montagna), Roma: Il Cerchio, 2023; M. J. Yahaqqi’s Juybar-e Lahzeha: Adabiyat-e Mo’aser-e Farsi, Nazm va Nathr (Manuale di letteratura e saggistica persiana contemporanea), Ponte33-ISMEO, 2018. She has also translated a novel by the renowned Italian writer Erri De Luca from Italian into Persian. For her translations, she won a month’s research residence at the House of Translations in Rome, 2022.   

Her research interests span across modern comparative languages and literatures, translation studies, multilingualism, transnationalism, immigration literature, nomadic writing, and invented languages. The primary focus of her research is the comparative study of Persian, North American, Italian and English languages and literatures. She has presented papers at international conferences in the US, UK, Spain, Italy, Turkey, Iran, and her articles have been published in various SCOPUS and scientific peer-reviewed journals.   

She is the coordinator of a project at the House of Translations in Rome, focusing on the translation of Persian literature into Italian and vice versa. Previously, in 2023, she delivered a keynote lecture on “Literary Translation and Cultural Mediation. Introducing Persian Literature in Italy”, at the same venue. Moreover, in April 2022, she delivered a keynote lecture at the University of Cambridge’s Conference “Moving Across Boundaries” on “Cross-Continental Literary Comparative Analysis and Interdisciplinary Research.”
