Mehnaz Jokari

Mehnaz Jokari received her Ph.D. in Persian Language and Literature from Shiraz University in 2020 and completed her postdoctoral fellowship in 2024 at Shiraz University in collaboration with the Iran Science Foundation. Her primary fields of research include children’s and young adult literature, literary criticism (with a particular focus on interdisciplinary criticism, narratology, semiotics, and discourse analysis), as well as modern Persian fiction and contemporary poetry. She has published articles in peer-reviewed journals and presented papers at academic conferences both in Iran and abroad.

Her doctoral dissertation, The Discursive Processes of Subject Formation in Iranian Young Adult Novels, was published as a book by Naqsh-e Moʿāser Press in Iran. Her postdoctoral project, Discourse Semantics of the Family in Young Adult Fiction, examined fifty years of Iranian realist and social fiction for adolescents, exploring the evolving representations of family in this genre. Jokari has several years of teaching experience at universities in Iran, in addition to her work in teaching Persian language and literature to both non-native learners and Persian-speaking communities outside Iran.

Her research is driven by an interest in uncovering ideologies and discursive constructions in contemporary Iranian literature. She examines the hidden meanings embedded in literary texts that shape readers’ perceptions and contribute to intellectual and social movements. At times, she also investigates how social transformations and ideological shifts have influenced the formation of literary trends. While much of her work centers on children’s and young adult literature due to its critical role in shaping cultural narratives, she also actively pursues these questions in modern adult literature, poetry, and fiction.
