Hanieh Bakhtiari
Hanieh is a PhD Candidate at the Department of Near and Middle Eastern Civilization at the University of Toronto. Hanieh’s research recovers the history of women’s participation in book history in the modern Middle East. Her current project examines the archival and methodological blind spots that have rendered the history of women’s intellectual labour invisible and proposes new frameworks for reading them back into the record. She also examines online archives, the digitization of manuscripts circulated and copied by women and the social afterlife of such texts in digital public spaces. Alongside this historiographical work, she has contributed to projects at the intersection of feminist data methods and the politics of care. She is a recipient of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) doctoral fellowship. Hanieh is a Research Assistant for the Encyclopedia Iranica Foundation (EIF) project at the University of Toronto.
