Definition

Shams Jahān Kasmāyi Yazdī, also known as Shams Kasmāʾi (born Yazd, 1883— died Tehran, 1961), was an Iranian poet, essayist, and political activist. Her writings largely appeared during the years 1918-1928 in periodicals in Tabriz, where she worked closely with the poet and literary critic, Taqī Rafʿat (1885-1920). Kasmāyi is considered to be one of Iran’s first modernist poets; she is remembered for her efforts in renewing Persian literature through the adoption of modern (European) styles and forms of expression.
