Rābiʿah Balkhī

Rābiʿah Balkhī, also known as Rābiʿah Quzdārī, was a tenth-century poet. She is generally considered the first Iranian female poet of classical Persian literature. Her biography is steeped in legend and has been the subject of mediaeval Persian romances. She was the daughter of Kaʿb Quzdārī, who was the governor of the city of Quzdar during the Samanid era. In some bibliographical works she is listed under the name, “Rābiʿah Isfahānī.”
